BANDE NAWAZ

Khwaza Bande Nawaz Dargha

One of the famous Sufi Saint of the Chishti order from India Syed Muhammad Hussaini, popularly known as Bande Nawaz, who was publicly supported understanding, tolerance and harmony among the various religious group of people. Hazrat Nasiruddin Chiragh Delhavi was a noted Sufi Saint from Delhi and Hazrat Khwaja Bande Nawaz Gaisu Daraz was his disciple(Murid). When Chiragh Dehlavi was dead Gaisu Daraz took on the mantle of the successor(khalifa). In the year 1398 he moved to Daulatabad owing to the attack of Timur on Delhi, he took the Chishti order to South India. Gulbarga was his final destination when Taj ud-Din Firuz Shah the Bahamanian Sultan invited him.

Biography:
In the year 1321 Bande Nawaz was born as Syed Muhammad Hussain in Delhi. When he was only four years of age, his family moved to Daulatabad in Deccan(Maharashtra). In the year 1397 Sultan Taj ud-Din Firuz Shah invited him to Gulbarga in Deccan(Karnataka). When he was fifteen, he went to Nasiruddin Chiragh Delavi in Delhi for his education & training. He was also very enthusiastic student of Hazrat Tajuddin Bhadur, Hazrat Kethli and Qazi Abdul Muqtadir. His name was Abul Fatah and title was Gaisu Daraz, among theologians and different scholars he was known as Sheikh Abul-Fatah Sadr Uddin Muhammad Dehlavi but people called him Khwaja Bande Nawaz Gaisu Daraz. In the year 1422 he pass away.

Parentage:
Bande Nawaz was the descendant of Hazrat Ali(R.A). His forefather lived in Hirat. On 4th Rajab, 721 Hijri Hazrat Shaikh Muhammad was born in Delhi. Hazrat Syed yousaf was his father and devoted to Hazrat Nizam-uddin-Aulia.

Childhood & Education:
Father of Bande Nawaz always gave preference to the education. In his childhood Bande Nawaz was always busy in prayer and meditation. At the age of 10 years his father died and all his education & training take care by his maternal grandfather. His maternal grandfather taught him all the initial books but he took lesson from another teacher on Qadoori and Misbah.

Works:
He was compiled Tafseer Multagat into one book, this was his literary work. Unfortunately his work was unknown to most of the people who lived within Gulbarga. This work has been published in a smaller scale but there was lots of other work done by Bande Nawaz, which was promote in a larger way. Avarif-ul-Ma'arif, Qasseeda Amali, Fasoos-al-Hukm and Adaab-al-Mureedein some of his achivement as an author.

Urs of Bande Nawaz:
On the 15th day of Zul-Qa'dah, every year the death anniversary of Bande Nawaz has been celebrated. People of different faith assemble together on the particular day to celebrate the festival of Urs at the well Known Bande Nawaz Dargah Sharif in Gulbarga. The descendants of Bande Nawaz still live in the city of Gulbarga. On the occasion of Urs festival all the family members with several hundred thousand devotees assembled on the Majar Sharif of Bande Nawaz to seek the blessing. The head of the family amongst the descendants of Bande Nawaz is Syed Shah Khusro Hussaini, who has written about the great forefather on his different books.
