ADHAI-DIN-KA JHONPRA(MOSQUE IN 2 AND A HALF DAYS)

Adhai-din-ka jhonpra
The most ancient monument of Hindu architecture is Adhai-din-ka jhonpra situated in the west of Ajmer. It is the ultimate example of the destruction of a Hindu or Jain temple and built a Mosque. It is believed that the construction of this Mosque complete with in two and a half days, hence the name of this Mosque is Adhai-din-ka jhonpra. Associating to its name it is also believed that the name is due to the annual fair held for two and a half days near the Mosque. One can reach the building if starts from Dargah Bazar to west along the boundary wall of Dargah Sharif. After crossing Tirpoli Darwaza, there is Mohalla Inderkot. At a short distance from Inderkot this Mosque is located on the right hand side. It is a grand Mosque made of red stone located in high place. In the older days the Mosque was originally a centre of Sanskrit education. In 1198 Mohammad Ghori converted it into a Mosque and built a seven-arched high wall which engraved with verses from the Holy Koran. Abu Bakr a Persian architect designed this beautiful Mosque in a hurry and down a wonderful job. For centuries Adhai-din-ka jhonpra was the only Mosque in Ajmer. The Mosque named a jhonpra due to the faqirs and dervishes began to assemble in the Mosque at the time of Maratha's to celebrate the annual Urs of there peer. The celebration of the Urs lasted for two and a half days and the faqirs used to stay for same period of time, this is why the name of this Mosque called Adhai-din-ka jhonpra. Inside the Mosque there is a beautiful tower used by the Muezzin to chant prayers. As the wall of the Mosque are adorned with phrases and quotes from the Holy Koran, although on top right of the main gate there is a tiny Sanskrit inscription reminds us of the origin of this beautiful Mosque built by Mohammad Ghori.
