Hazrat Gaus al-Azam, Mahboob-e-Subhani, Qutb-e-Rabbani, Peeran-e-Pir, sayyid Abu muhammad abdul Qadir Jilani, was born in Naif in the district of Gilan(Iran) in Persia on the month of Ramadan in the year 470 A.H. A god fearing man Hazrat Abu Salih was his father and a direct descendant of Hazrat Imam Hasan(R.A), the eldest son of Hazrat Ali(R.A) and of Sayyida Fatima(R.A). His mother was the daughter of Sayyid Abdullah Sawmai who was a direct descendant of Imam Husain(R.A), the younger son of Hazrat Ali(R.A) and Sayyida Fatima(R.A). Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani was a noted Hanabi preacher, Sufi Sheik and the eponymous founder of the Qadiri Sufi order(selsela). His contribution and renown in the sciences of Sufism and Sharia was so immense that he became the spiritual pole of his life.
Once he noticed that an apple floating down the river when he engrossed in meditation near the river. He picked and eat the apple, but after eating the apple he realised that he didn't pay for that. so he went out to pay the price to the owner and at last reached to "Abdullah Somai" and ask for the price. In replied he said the apple was very expensive and Syed Abu Saleh replied that he could serve him for compensation. Abdullah Somai asked to work in his orchard for a year. He often extended the times during the work but at last Abdullah Somai admitted that he had serve him in excess of the price and wanted to reward for that. Then Abu Saleh was agreed to married Syeda Fatimah daughter of Abdullha Somai after some conversation Abu Saleh complained to his father-in-law Abdullha Somai, that he found her daughter more beautiful than what he explain to him about her daughter. When Abdul Qadir Jilani was quite young his father Abu Saleh was pass away and the young orphan was grown up with his mother and his grandfather Abdullha Somai. In the year 1095 AD he went to Baghdad at the age of 18 where he follow the study of Hanbalite law under different scholar. While travelling for Baghdad, few dacoits struck on the way and looted all the belongings from all the travellers. When one of the dacoit asked the young Abdul Qadir Jilani all of his belongings, he replied that he had 40 gold coins, the dacoit took this as a joke and took him to the chief where he replied the same. And produced the gold coins, the chief was surprised and asked the reason. Abdul Qadir Jilani replied, while travelling to Baghdad for education his mother instructed him to speak the truth. This incident make deep effect upon the chief and he gave up looting.
Abdul Qadir Jilani received lesson from Abu Sail Ali-al-Mukharrimi on Islamic Jurisprudence, from Abu-Bakra-bin-Muzaffer on Hadit and from Abu Mohammed Jafar the renowned commentator on commentary. Shaik-Abu'l-Khair Hammad was his spiritual instructor in Sufism. From him he get some basic training and with his help he went out on the spiritual journey. At the age of 91years he died in 1166AD, and was buried in Baghdad.
