Haji Ali Dargah

Haji Ali Dargah voted as one of the seven wonder of Mumbai. In Mumbai, Haji Ali Dargah is situated about 500 yard from the shore line in the middle of the Arabian sea. Haji Ali Dargah is one of the most famous and religious place of India. People of different faith from all over come to this place to pay homage to there Saint. A wealthy Muslim merchant known as Haji ali, who built this famous place in 1431 A.D and later became a Saint. In the 19th century the structure was enlarged with a set of high rising rocks to give the present day look. As the tomb of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari(R.A) is in the complex housing, there is also a Mosque of Haji Ali along with the tomb. The white domes and minarets of the structure reflect the memories of the Mughal architecture of the period.The structure of the Haji Ali Dargah was made of "Makrana" marble, which was used by the Emperor Shah Jahan to build the Taj-Mahal. So why the architecture of Haji Ali shows the pattern and look of Mughal and Indo-Islamic architure. According to the Muslim tradition different praying rooms for Men as well as Women are available here to pay there homage. Some believed that when Haji Ali on his way to Mecca he perished and the coffin which carried his body, floated back on it's own to the Dargah. How ever some other says that Haji Ali drowned at the point where the present Dargah is situated. The Haji Ali Dargah is a well known pilgrimage among the Muslim as well as for other different religion people also. The sparkling white glow of the structure draw attention in large numbers of visitor through out the year. Daily near about 10 to 15 thousand people of different faith visit the Dargah. But specially on Thursday, Friday and Sunday the number increase to 20 to 30 thousand. the number of visitors rise up to lacks on some special occasion, like the 2nd day of Ramadan, on the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Zoha. 
On the 16th of (Rabi-ul-Aakhir/Rabi-ul-Thaany)(17th shab) the Urs(death anniversary) of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari(R.A) is celebrated every year. The Trust of Haji Ali take care all of the necessary rituals according to Islamic tradition. On this occasion a special program of Milad and prayers is held and the Trust distributed Niyaz(sweets)to to all devotes and visitors. The Trust also organised a function on 12th Rabi-ul-Awal on the occasion of Eid-Milad-un-Nabi[Birth Anniversary of Prophet Mohammad(S.A.W,S)].
